‘Smart Trash’ is an initiative by Valerie Thomas from Georgia Tech’s School of Industrial and Systems Engineering. It aims at inventing a new approach to recycling with a cash incentive by inventorying and selling electronics and other disposables.

More about it on this page – http://www.gatech.edu/newsroom/release.html?id=3379

Among other things, the article points out —  “the flow of products out of the household needs to be managed with at least as much intelligence as the flow of products into the household”.

One of the projects in C4G class is “GeTGreen with GT/CoC facilities” which looks at using a blend of creativity and technology to encourage and enable recycling around the campus on a greater scale.
